ATPS Participates in UNESCO’s Science Policy Workshop
The ATPS executive director Prof Kevin Urama represented the ATPS in a science policy workshop organised by UNESCO’s pision for Science Policy and Sustainable Development in collaboration with countries from West and Central Africa.
The workshop held from 12-14 March 2013 at Novotel Hotel in Dakar, Senegal aimed to analyse STI and policy instruments in line with the conference theme “Better governance on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). The delegates comprised of policy makers in STI, development partners, the academia and government officials from Burundi, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Niger and Senegal.
Key in the deliberations was collection, evaluation and monitoring of STI systems within the framework of international initiatives such as the Global Observatory on Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Instruments (GO-SPIN) and Science, Technology and Innovation Global Assessment Programme (STIGAP). The conference culminated into the formation of a task force charged with the responsibility of generating STI country profiles to be integrated into the online platforms.
