ATPS participates in the first Bio-Innovate Regional Scientific Conference
The ATPS participated in the first Bio-Innovate Regional Scientific Conference at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 25 – 27, February 2013.
During the conference the ATPS Presented a paper titled “The Status of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policies in Eastern Africa”. The paper is currently being revised for possible publication in a proceeding.
In his presentation, Dr. Nicholas Ozor, ATPS senior research officer reported that the ATPS is examining the current status of Science, Technology and Innovation policies in different countries in East Africa namely: Burundi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania. Though many policies have been found to guide the development and implementation of research based policies, most of these policies are not fully implemented, and hence the need to go beyond policy formulation-and adoption-to implementation.
The ATPS also presented a poster titled “Enhancing Value Chain Development in Bio-Resource Innovation through Entrepreneurship Skills Training”, a move which elicited feedback, with most stakeholders showing interest to be trained on entrepreneurship. The conference culminated into a request to ATPS to develop a technoeconomic analysis template for other projects within the Bio-Innovate Program.
