ATPS organises inaugural Kenyan Science Cafe
ATPS in collaboration with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), British Council South Africa and support from Dr Duncan Dallas, UK organized the inaugural science café on 17 April at the JAVA Coffee House Adams Arcade Nairobi. A science café, is a forum for discussing/debating important and interesting scientific issues in an informal accessible manner. Café scientifique provides a unique forum for the discussion of topical and thought provoking scientific issues in a relaxed, informal and accessible manner. Professor Omu Anzala, a leading Kenyan HIV/AIDS researcher and director of the Kenya Aids Vaccine (KAVI was the speaker at the café. Professor Anzala spoke about his organization's efforts and progress in finding the AIDS Vaccine but also answered "layman" questions from the science café participants. The café was a resounding success and attracted media attention. ATPS plans to use the science café model to disseminate its research findings to its various constituents including policy makers, media, and the general public.
