African Carbon Forum: exploring how carbon markets can provide solutions for climate change management3-5 March , 2010
The African Carbon Forum was held from the 3rd to 5th March 2010. The meeting brought together researchers from various fields for discussions on a variety of issues that pertain to climate mitigation and adaptation in Africa through the carbon markets.
TIt was noted that there is huge unexploited potential for greening Africa particularly in the area of renewable energies, and as a result, most of the developed countries represented in the forum expressed their interest in supporting and investing in the cause
The forum, hosted at the UNEP headquaters in Nairobi presented a platform and a renewed impetus to promote agricultural production as an effective mitigation and adaptation tool among other agricultural multi-functionalities. It also underscored the need for political leadership, collective but differentiated responsibilities for both the developed and developing countries, and technology driven measures for climate change management. the ATPS was represented at the forum by Ms. Wairimu Mwangi, the reearch officer.
