The project is funded by the\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"http:\/\/cdkn.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/cdkn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Climate and Development Knowledge Network\u00a0<\/a>(GBP 499,988.70)\u00a0 \u2013 an initiative funded by the\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"http:\/\/www.dfid.gov.uk\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dfid.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK Department for International Development (DFID)\u00a0<\/a>. It aims to inform the development of Climate Innovation Centres in various developing countries by analysing the history of, and actors involved in, the adoption of solar home systems in Kenya. The objective is to improve the ability of policy to facilitate the transfer and uptake of low carbon technologies in developing countries, and to do so in ways that can assist in their economic development. Especially challenging but of critical importance to this economic development, the project aims to identify in ways in which low carbon technologies canwhich also benefit poor people by improving access to modern energy services.<\/p><p>The project brings to bear an innovative theoryetical approach which builds on the\u00a0<a class=\"\" title=\"http:\/\/steps-centre.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/steps-centre.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">STEPS Centre\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>Pathways Approach \u00a0to bridge relevant insights from academic literature in the fields of both innovation studies and socio-technical transitions.
